My boys picked up Hand, Mouth & Foot disease this last week. I'm pretty sure it was at the daycare where I do my trade. Both of them broke out in a red rash, Chandler fevered on Tuesday night and then Thursday they both started getting these blisters everywhere that looked so extremely painful. Rowan's are a ton worse, although Chandler has them in his mouth and cries every time he tries to eat. One of those times you wish you could take the pain away. We went to the Dr. on Friday and it's just a virus so we have to wait it out. Marsh & I haven't gotten it, probably because we've both had it as children. So it's a lot of staying home as they are pretty contagious right now.
Here's a little blurb about it:
Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness of infants and children. The disease causes fever and blister-like eruptions in the mouth and/or a skin rash. HFMD is often confused with foot-and-mouth (also called hoof-and-mouth) disease, a disease of cattle, sheep, and swine; however, the two diseases are not related—they are caused by different viruses. Humans do not get the animal disease, and animals do not get the human disease.
Anyways, we could use a few positive thoughts. It seems like we finally kicked Row's ear infections in the butt, and now this. Marsh has also been having some problems with his ears and hearing. He thought it might be due to ear wax buildup but he went to the Dr., and they just made it worse. If it doesn't get better in the next week or so, I'm going to look up an ENT for him to go see. It seems like it's just one thing after another....

Those blisters look pretty sad. I know its hard to see them in so much pain. Carson broke out with HFMD on the 4th of July (2006) and I was freaking out and we ended up taking him to the ER because I had no idea what was wrong with him. The good news is that it will eventually run its course, although its sad to see them suffer through it!
Aww poor babies! I have never seen blisters that bad! Hopefully it passes fast
Oh that looks awful! Poor guys!
Has Marshal lost his hearing? Or does he have a ringing going on in his ear? You may want to look up Ménière's Disease and auto immune diseases that cause the same symptoms, depending on what his symptoms are. If it is an auto immune problems, most general docts don't know how to treat it, and it would be important to get into an ENT specialist, because it can cause permanent damage. There again, depending on his symptoms. I know from experience.
PS Sorry about the boys. I hope they get feeling better soon.
Poor little guys I hope they get feeling better soon.
Sorry... Hang in there.
Hang in there. Dean caught hand, mouth and foot but it seemed like no big deal for him. I didn't worry about it too much and don't recall a major fever (rare for Dean not to get extreme fever). I just took him to the doc for the rash and learned that's what it was but he was over it in no time.
Anyone who we ever mentioned it to always thought we were talking about the cow disease called foot-and-mouth disease. LOL. We always had to explain the two were different.
I hope your boys start feeling better soon. Those blisters can look pretty nasty.
OH how sad. That has got to be miserable. I hope they get better soon!
Aww...It's tough being the mom and having to watch your babies suffer. I hope everyone gets feeling better soon..
hang in there Tiff. They will get better and be the happy little guys you know soon.
Ohhh...Tiff I am so sorry!! Or should I say Chandler and Rowan I am so sorry!! That looks like no fun!!!! Poor kids!
I hope they feel better soon! Sick kids are not fun!
Poor little guys! I hate when my kids are sick, it's the worst feeling in the world. Hope they get better soon!
Okay either, I posted that and didn't remember I had already posted or Chris posted too - I hope it was Chris, but weird how we said the same exact thing! Anyways...
That really, really sucks! We have never had hand, foot, mouth disease, but Charlise had Herpes virus covering her gums when she was 13 months old. Very painful indeed. You can always look into getting a lidocaine rinse to help with the mouth sores. I feel for you! It looks painful.
That makes me so wary of day care. Those blisters look painful and I can't even imagine what they feel like in your mouth. Good Luck with your sick family. Hopefully the sun will come out soon!!
